Zentangle Challenge #220 - UMT (Use My Tangle): All Boxed Up

This week's challenge from Laura at www.iamthedivaczt.blogspot.ca is to "use my tangle" (UMT), and the tangle chosen is from Alice Hendon called All Boxed Up. I didn't love this tangle at first glance, but once I started playing with it, I had lots of fun - hence the three tiles (smile). My scanner is not great, so I apologize for the quality… really, they all look better in person, I think. I'm looking for good tangles to do on black tiles because I really think I need to start investigating those a bit more, and get more experience with them (and Renaissance too). I think All Boxed Up has potential - and while I like the black tile I did here, I think it could be better if I knew how to bring out the white a bit better. I'd love to take a course just on the black tiles… anyone? (in or near Toronto) Thank you for looking and I know it's very time consuming, but I appreciate it when people take the time to leave comments.

Wow! Your tiles are beautiful. I especially love the spherical one.

I think they're all nice. After your intro and my own unsatisfactory experience using white on black tiles (i.e. Diva's Challenge #218), I'm especially impressed by your white on black tile. I think you could maybe teach the class you're looking for----too bad Toronto isn't closer to Philly so I could attend!

It's so nice to see 3 tiles that are so different from each other while containing the same pattern. The white on black one is my favorite!

I like all three, but the sphere is my favorite. Working on black is quite interesting and different!

Gorgeous set of response tiles, Sue. You have a fabulous design sense, and it is displayed wonderfully in your Tiles. Very effective shading and your patterns are so cleaning drawn. I love all of you Tiles.

I like all three of your tiles. The round one because, well, it's round and I'm always impressed with grid tiles so sharply drawn that make curved surfaces, and your black one is great! It draws the eye up through the composition. Wonderful all! (The Mothership, as Suzanne Fluhr would say, sells an inexpensive tool - I think it's a soapstone - that works nicely to shade black tiles)

Love the tiles. Especially the circle tile.

All of these are lovely, but I like the black one the best. You've achieved a striking zigzag with the shading, and then the whole thing arches? Wow!

Nice work. I like the black tile. The shading brings out this tangle but I think my preference is for the circle one.

Wow! I'm not sure which one is my favorite, they are all so beautifully done. The white on black is absolutely stunning and your linework on all of them is amazing.
