Zentangle Challenge #119 - Ebony and Ivory

This week's Zentangle Challenge from Laura at www.iamthedivaczt.blogspot.ca is to use black and white, evenly distributed throughout the tile. I actually missed the part about "evenly distributed", though I think I ended up fairly balanced with white/black. I was at the local art store and found on sale some black card stock and a pretty ivory smaller card - probably meant for name tags, and had one of those "Ah hah" moments when I knew exactly how I was going to start this challenge. I taped the small ivory card off centre on the black card stock (which pre-folds in 1/2 to make a card...), then used kitchen glasses for the circles. I then wove a couple of bands through the circles and that was my "string". The white gel pen is definitely not my favourite - I'd like something with a finer line, and something that doesn't smudge if you don't let it dry a bit. However, I found that I really did like the result of using a white tile on a black tile and doing a sort of negative drawing of the tangles. I've decided to do a set of cards like these for those occasions when I can't find the right card at the store.... The other thought I had was to make the white piece elevated a bit from the black with a spring or sponge tape; maybe the next card! Thanks for looking, and I appreciate any comments.

This is beautiful. The white on black looks like gossamer.

Wow, I love it! It has this great flow. So creative! I also like the tangles you used, which for me, made it so modern & abstract.

So clever, I like the transitions from black to white. Meer looks like a skeleton on the black.

Sue this one is great. I love the way you put the two papers together and then tangled them. I think you did a perfect job on this challenge. Evenly or not I like it very much. Mine isn't evenly too, but it is the idea and the fun you have by trying to make the challenge work for you.

Boy did this turn out good. Will make wonderful cards. I agree with you about the white gel pens, but so far haven't found anything better to use.

Very nice work with the white gel pen. Which one did you use? Gelly Roll, Uniball, Inktense or something else.

I did not do this challenge because I did not know how to approach it, but yours show what a lively imagination can do with a black and white combination.

This really is stunning! I love the contrast of the black and white, the way the circles intertwine with the flowing lines, and the way you "mirror" the black and white tangles.

You asked a question about a tangle on my blog (http://findingmelosingme.blogspot.com/2013/05/challenge-119-ebony-and-ivory.html) a while back, and I've been out of the country, so I apologize for the delay in getting back to you.

The tangle you asked about is one I created. I call it Moroc, and I'll post a stepout when I get a chance (although who knows when that will be!).
