Zentangle Challenge #226 - Simplicity - Guest Blogger Katie Crommett

This week's Zentangle Challenge is from a guest blogger on Laura's blog (www.iamthedivaczt.blogspot.ca), Katie Crommett, CZT. The theme for this week is "Simplicity". A great choice! I used to be much better at leaving white space and only doing 2-4 tangles on a tile, but I suspect that with the huge number of new to me tangles, I'm crowding in too many new and familiar tangles. It's so good to go back to simple! But of course, I couldn't keep it totally simple and decided it was time again to try a tangle I really struggle with - Tripoli. I'm getting a bit better with the help of Suzanne Wilka's Tripoli tutorial, but I need to practice, practice, practice, and take more time and mindfulness in the drawing. Thanks for bringing me back to a simpler tile, and also to step out of my comfort zone by concentrating on a troubling tangle!

I love how Tripoli flows into Rixty! I'm glad this was a timely challenge for you, too! I too love to fill my tile with all the tangles I know!

Nice flow to this tile, Sue. Some tangles just aren't for everyone. I remember when I was trying to learn Mooka that I filled pages upon pages of wobbly messes before muscle memory took over for me and I finally got it. Your Tripoli is looking good!

I'm not sure practicing a tangle you find difficult is keeping it simple. OTOH, it's true that I find concentrating on a tangle that's difficult for me can actually put me into a mindfulness zone. If I can do a tangle without having to concentrate, that can allow my mind to wander. Is that how it works for you? In any case, your tile is "simply" complex. ;-)

One of the things I love about zentangle patterns is how one pattern can transform into another (which I will talk about in my blog). Tripoli is difficult for me as well. Great tile!

I like this, Rixty makes it playful! You do very well with this VERY difficult tangle, I don't even dare trying again :-(

I don't know this tangle, looks difficult.

It is beautiful Sue, It looks like you made a gourde on a tile, great balance in tripoli between the white and black parts, and the rixties are a great ' sidedish' to your tripoli.
Greetings from the Netherlands!

Nice work on Tripoli. I remember my sister and I talking about this tangle and ways to approach it. It can be tricky. I tend to start to make it too small. Like how the tripoli escapes in to Rixty.
