This week's challenge is to use they symbol for the Four Diamond Fund (see below). I thought it would be simple... but found when I did the string using "laced" that I wasn't happy with it so I went on to my second try. Then I got stuck on that one and went back to this one. That's what I love so much about these challenges - I get frustrated with my original idea not working out as I envisioned, then go through a phase of "what the heck, just work at it, it doesn't matter", then generally, I'm not displeased with what it ends up as. In this one, I don't like the way the eyelete turned out around the laced, but otherwise I love the interlocking hearts! The top diamond was also created from a mistake, but I kind of like it too. Penn State University’s Dance Marathon—lovingly called THON —is an annual event that benefits The Four Diamonds Fund at Penn State Hershey Children’s Hospital. In 1973, 39 dancer couples participated in the first THON and raised $2,000. Last year, in 2011, 353 couples danced and raised $9.56 million. In its 40 years, THON has raised over $78 million, money that has paid medical expenses for more than 2000 families and also funds innovative research. The Four Diamonds Fund was started by Charles and Irma Millard after their son, Christopher, lost his 3 year battle with cancer in 1972. Symbolic of the traits Christopher felt were needed to defeat cancer, he wrote a story in which the knight Sir Millard overcomes obstacles to achieve the four diamonds of Courage, Wisdom, Honesty and Strength.

I was impressed by your design as soon as I saw it, and my enjoyment was further enhanced by reading about your process. Thanks for sharing! I love the hearts, too! But my favorite part is that top diamond. :-)
