Zentangle Challenge #201 - Moebus strip

This week's Zentangle Challenge #201 is to tangle a Moebus strip - you can read all about it at www.iamthedivaczt.blogspot.ca. I hand drew the moebus strip and in hindsight should have traced it, because the proportions are all out… but that's the way it goes. I love these two tangles… but together on the moebus strip - doesn't particularly work. Ah well, I had fun doing it for this worthy cause, and that is the Zen of Zentangle!

Zendala Dare #61

Another wonderful Zendala template from Erin at www.thebrightowl.blogspot.ca. I really enjoyed this one, and the tangles just seemed to flow. I started with Archer, then added Snugz. At that point it looked like a starfish, so then I put in Waves. A couple more touches and some shading... and here it is. I'm quite happy with this one.

Zentangle Challenge #118 - UMT - Kuke

The Zentangle Challenge this week from Laura at www.iamthedivaczt.blogspot.ca is an "UMT" (Use My Tangle), and the tangle is Kuke. Such a pretty tangle! I can't wait to see how others have used it, which I'll do after I've submitted mine. I used one of the pre-printed Zendala tiles. Twile was a challenge to me - getting it to fit into the triangular curves, but I'm ok with the way it turned out. ...and I rather wish I'd used the sepia for Kuke and black for Archer and Hybrid so that Kuke would be more of the focus. Zentangle Challenge #87: "String Theory v. XII: Pinwheels for Peace v.II"

This week's Zentangle Challenge (www.iamthedivaczt.blogspot.ca) was to use a pinwheel for our string - in celebration of International Day of Peace, Sept. 21, 2012. My first pinwheel string (or pattern) is a quilt pinwheel... it turned out fussier than I would have liked. Tangles used are: H2O Lilly, Facets, Trimonds and Rose (Rose is supposed to have the accent over the e, like the blush colored wine, but I can't figure out how to do that on my computer).

My second pinwheel is simpler - two tangles: Tortuga, and Efilys

The third is from a pattern I found by browsing through google images of pinwheel coloring pages. This was my favorite to do, and out of the three tiles, I managed to do four new to me tangles. I've had a lot of fun with this week's challenge! The tangles I used in this third tile: MI2, Archer, Golven, Lokomotive, Yabbut and Huggins (and woodgrain for the post)

Zendala Dare #13 - Play with paper

This weeks Zendala Dare from Erin of www.thebrightowl.blogspot.ca, is to use her template on a surface that is something other than what we would usually tangle on. The timing couldn't be better for me because I just bought some blackout drapery material that I wanted to try sewing into a Zentangle chair cover. Well, the material does bleed a bit, doesn't shade with pencil so I had to get creative and try shading with the pen, and I don't think it's going to be very color fast. Oh well, I'm sure I'll find another use for it. The first example is the on the blackout material. Today was record heat temperatures in Toronto so I spent most of the day in the back yard, in a kiddie pool cooling down and enjoying an otherwise beautiful day. Between dips, I did my second tile on some colored texture craft paper. It has a sort of tie-dye stripe in blue and pink so I used blue and pink ink. I'm happy with the first, but the second looks (and was) rushed.

Zendala Dare #7

This is week 7 of Erin's Zendala Dare (http://thebrightowl.blogspot.ca), and I'm loving these mandala templates. I recently received my tin of pre-printed tiles which I also love, but it's really neat to see the many interpretations and individual characteristics come out when so many people follow the same pattern then post the results. This week I decided to do the larger size as I had a bit more time (sitting out on the patio in great weather)! Flux is a tangle I see often, and since the instructions are not posted, I did what I could with it based on my memory of what I've seen. Let me know if I'm way off base, ok? Ixorus, Archer and Lokomotive are some of my favorite tangles. I really like this mandala and may do one of the smaller versions later in the week. Thanks again Erin! ZIA - ovals, squares, circles - Zentangle challenge #65

The string for this ZIA was created using three things from the kitchen - a coaster, a martini shaker, and an olive dish - I thought about calling it "wasted martini's", but will save that catchy title for another ZIA. I had barely started when Zentangle Weekly Challenge #65 from "I am the Diva" came out asking us to use the tangle "Huggy Bear". I'd never used it before. I did a traditional tile and submitted that, but though it made me try some variations of Huggy Bear, I wasn't too happy with it. So I added it into this ZIA, and I'm much happier with how it turned out. I didn't try to be too original in variations - I'm working on learning and practicing tangles, rather than stretching creativity. Sometimes when I see how creative others are, I think "why didn't I think of that?". Hopefully that will come after I get better at technique. Love to hear any comments....
