Ok, this is not my favorite template and I almost didn't do this week's Zendala Dare from Erin at www.thebrightowl.blogspot.ca. Then, when I was browsing through my books of tangles I saw Loopy and decided I wanted to try it - and this was, I thought, a great template for it. That's how it started, and it's my favourite part of this Zendala. Slink isn't quite right, but that's ok, I'll know better for next time I try it. What I have found very interesting in my tile and other's that have been posted, is the variety and differences that we have all come up with for such a simple (for lack of a better descriptive word) design! Yeah Zentangle!!!! Thanks Erin.

Zendala Dare #56 - in pencil

I had time this beautiful weekend to do two entries for Erin's Zendala Dare which has the added challenge of doing the zendala in pencil. (Go to www.thebrightowl.blogspot.ca to see the Zendala Dares, and her wonderful blog.) Not sure I like working in just pencil - mainly because I found that I smudged it a lot. However, it was new to me, and I learned a lot. I started by using a 3B pencil, but ended up going back and relining with a B, and adding a bit more with a 4B.
Thanks yet again Erin for taking me further out of my comfort zone and pushing me to do something I would never have considered. And thanks to everyone who takes the time to look (and comment) - I learn almost as much from looking at what others have done and said as I do from trying new things myself. And now to look at what the rest of you have submitted....

Zentangle Challenge #110 - "get rid of the box"

Well, I can't wait to see what everyone else is doing with this challenge! I didn't really have to think too hard about this one because a while ago I bought a ceramic pear with the intention of tangling it with a sharpie pen because I've heard that you can bake it and make it permanent. I'm sure I stored the article somewhere, but of course can't find it now. At any rate, this challenge (from Laura at www.iamthedivaczt.blogspot.ca) is the perfect motivation to try this project. I don't like the way the pen slips on the shiny surface; it's hard to get a steady line, and my fingers kept smudging stuff I'd already done; and I went through 3 sharpies. But... here it is posted. I'll still look for the instructions about baking it, but I doubt that I'll be doing any more unless I can find some ceramic tiles and make coasters - a flat surface would be much easier. Thanks again Laura for making us step out of our comfort zones!

Zendala Dare #40 - second entry
I had to try this Zendala Dare template again, and yet again.... I started this tile intending to use Pia, but didn't look at the instructions and of course did it wrong... so I guess it's sort of "rain" but rounded. After that, I just kept on tangling. I wasn't going to post this one but here it is anyway.
My last try of this template and I decided to use Pia (the way I originally intended, and two other tangles I haven't used before: Zin and Boties. Perhaps because the template is quite complex, all three of my tiles took a long time to do - much of it in thought about how to start and what to do next... then especially with the last one, trying to keep lines straight and even. Because I spent so much time on the tiles, I haven't had time to look at every entry yet - I'll try to get them, but may not have time to comment on as many as I like to.
