Zendala Dare #80

Another fun Zendala from Erin at www.thebrightowl.blogspot.ca! This took more time that I thought it would, mainly because it's about 10" x 10", and I was being very careful with Punzel. I love Punzel but it can really be difficult. I admit that I drew it out in pencil first though was surprised at how little I had to "fix". We reviewed this tangle at the CZT12 session and Rick and Maria made it look so easy and graceful. Other than that, the rest just seemed to come together fairly easily. I think it would have been better if I'd put some colour in the background behind the Punzel - the gaps behind the overlapping twists would show better. Maybe next time….

Zendala Dare #46

Back from Mexico so I'm still under the influence of supposed sun and water (though the weather wasn't great for our week). This week's Zendala Dare from Erin at www.thebrightowl.blogspot.ca gave me the opportunity to use a modified design that I saw in the resorts fountain pools. I also used Cruffle because the two colors sort of made them look like fallen coconuts; Waves since it was so windy the waves were huge on the ocean and even rippled the pool; and Sand swirl, again because of the wind. The tangle Waves is done in a really pretty blue, that unfortunately didn't scan very well. I love the fountain design - here's a picture of the mosaics:

Zentangle Challenge #101 - Phicops

This week's Zentangle Challenge (#101), from Laura at www.iamthedivaczt.blogspot.ca, is a UMT (use my tangle). Her husband B-rad has developed the tangle we are to use - Phicops (pronounced f-eye-cops). I had already started a small ZIA using a string made from the beginning of my name "S" (turn the page), and a "U". I still had several sections to fill in, so I put Phicops in two of them - shaded with green but that doesn't show up very well with the scan. I've used 4 "new to me" tangles in this ZIA. I haven't looked at any other entries but I'm guessing there will be lots of very interesting and beautiful variations... I learn so much from looking at all the other entries, and being pushed to try something new and often out of my comfort zone with each challenge (and dare). Thank you Laura for these challenges each week, and thank you everyone who takes the time to comment and/or look.

Zendala

Picked up another one of my pre-strung Zendala tiles (available through www.zentangle.com) and this is the result. I wish I hadn't colored in the background on Maylea, but there you go.... Love the teal color though and will use that more often.

Zentangle Challenge #84 - String Theory XI: Blind-Sighted

It's been weeks since I've taken the time to participate in a Zentangle Challenge. That's what happens in the summer - there is so much going on. (See my photo in the previous entry of me at a craft fair selling my stuffed owls.) At first it was really hard to just let go and I think I actually went through a "Zentangle withdrawal". It's not a bad thing to take a break though, and though I managed to add the new tangles to my workbook, I do feel a bit less compulsive or obsessive about feeling that I HAVE TO do every single Zentangle Challenge and Zentangle Dare. Not that I won't do most of them :) Recently I bought a photo cube from Michael's and have decided that the next six challenges I do will be on 3.5 x 3.5 squares and displayed in the cube. (I prefer working on larger or ZIA pieces so this adds to my challenge.) So, here is my entry for Challenge #84 - Blind Sighted. I used some of the fabulous new tangles that have been introduced in the past little while: LLilly, Dooleedo, Cruffle, D-vine, and Hypnotic.
